Otago Exercise Programme

This free one-to-one Falls Prevention programme is for clients aged 80+ who are at risk of falling. You can self-refer or be referred and one of our nurses will work with you for 12 months on an exercise programme tailored to your needs in your own home.
To start with, a Nelson Nursing Services (NNS) nurse will visit you at home, assess your needs and develop a strength, balance and retraining exercise programme for you. The exercises will improve your balance, muscle strength and general well being.
This programme can also be privately purchased for people in rest homes.
Nutrition and Activity Programme

People who find themselves living alone don’t always look after themselves very well, which can have serious impacts on health and quality of life. We provide a free educational programme for people (caregivers, family members, community groups) who want to know more about helping older people improve nutrition and activity levels.
The programme aims to improve physical activity and nutrition for people aged 65+ and includes a free cookery book, nutrition and shopping tips and exercises for improving lower limb strength and balance which then gives people the confidence to enjoy outings and social activities again.
Social Rehabilitation Support

NNS offers a range of services to people with an injury caused by an accident. An assessment team (which may consist of a nurse, dietitian, physiotherapist and occupational therapist) will visit you in your home and assess your needs and the level of support required- whether it be equipment, Meals on Wheels, transport, home help or child care.
NNS will provide ACC with a report recommending the measures required for rehabilitation and you can choose NNS or another service provider, if you wish.
Incontinence Products

We sell a wide range of different brands of incontinence products including pads, bed and chair protectors, urodomes and penile sheaths.
NNS offers an initial incontinence assessment, recommendations of the most suitable products and the opportunity to trial several brands to find which is most effective for your needs. We can also liaise with Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ) regarding a disability allowance which may cover the cost of incontinence products.
