- Client funded
The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 requires employers and others to maintain safe working environments and implement sound practice with an emphasis on the systematic management of health and safety at work. Nelson Nursing Services Ltd (NNS) has a team of nurses, an occupational therapist and a physiotherapist who can help you to meet the requirements of the Act either as a ‘one-off’ review or an ongoing package of services tailored to your work environment and needs.
NNS Occupational Health Services include:
Pre-employment Health Screening which identifies pre-existing health problems:
- Hearing tests
- Drug screening
- Vision checks
- Lung function checks
- Cholesterol and blood sugar tests
- Other checks available on request
Annual Health Testing
A programme of annual health testing for your employees which can include vision, hearing and lung function tests, blood pressure testing, screening for diabetes and cholesterol and an opportunity for employees to discuss health issues.
Drug Testing
Employees affected by drugs, can expose themselves and workmates to accidents and danger. We can collect samples for laboratory testing as part of pre-employment health checks, on a random basis or following a safety-related incident. We can offer instant- result tests following a safety-related incident or accident (24/7), which allow an employer to take immediate and appropriate action. Both the instant and laboratory tests conform to Australia and New Zealand Standard for Alcohol and Drug Screening (2008).
Ergonomic Workplace Checks
People can tolerate small departures from optimal designs of equipment and the environments in which they work. However, beyond this there is a cost in terms of efficiency, discomfort and the potential for accidents and injury.
These problems can be avoided if an ergonomics approach is used. NNS mainly deals with office workspaces, and our specialist nurse will visit your workplace to advise on seating and desk setup, light and noise exposure and ways to minimize staff exposure to strains and repetitive actions. Our occupational therapist can advise on equipment for special situations such as the return to work of an injured employee.
Health Education
Our occupational health nurse offers a range of health education initiatives including wellness checks, information on lifestyle issues, ideas for incorporating exercise into the working day, improving diet and first aid and CPR. The importance of regular health screening tests and skin protection are also promoted.
